Welcome to Dharma Way Dojo!
The word dojo in Japanese simply means training hall. The Dharma is a sanscrit word that means truth. At Dharma Way Dojo we strive to teach the students the truth of the martial arts. What does that mean? Everyone has their own idea of truth of course, so you might be wondering how we differ from other training facilities that teach martial arts.
We offer instruction in Ba Gua Zhang, Tai Chi Chuan, Shorin Ryu Matsumura Sokendo Karate, Self Defense, Qi Gong, and stretching and strengthening for the back (click on the art of interest for more information).
We differ in that we offer private instruction to adults; children are considered, but only as a family plan. Offering our instruction in this manner allows us to design a course around the individual. No longer does a student have to be embarrassed because they are lost in a new class, no forty-five year old white belts being instructed by fourteen year old black belts and, better yet, the student can make an appointment for the class that does not have to be the same time each week which helps to accommodate the busy schedules of adults. Plus, a student may study at their own pace, one-on-one. In many large classes, if you misunderstand what is being taught, the instructor doesn't catch it and you may do a technique incorrectly for weeks, months, or even years before you find out. This is important in the martial arts because if the basics are not followed, every subsequent technique will also be off, owing to the weakness of the basics.
At Dharma Way Dojo a student may opt for a private class one-on-one for $30 per hour or two people may share the hour and split the cost. For groups of three or more, call 616.617.9787 or 616.363.2537 for special rates. We also have instruction available at your corporation, health club, or private home.
We do not require a contract to participate, but we do require payment in advance for four classes and there are no refunds for cancellations. If a time needs to be changed, we will do our best to accommodate you, but we make no guarantee of that possibility.
